Rufus Filmer

Kent Figurative Artist | Contemporary Paintings | Original Artwork

Rufus Filmer is a Kent-based figurative artist and teacher whose paintings explore human figures within imagined, staged and often ambiguous environments. His work suggests fleeting moments, half-remembered scenes and unresolved narratives, inviting the viewer to bring their own interpretation to each painting.

Working from a range of photographic sources, including film stills, television, picture books and found imagery, Rufus reassembles fragments into compositions that sit between reality and fiction. His figures often feel theatrical, acting as quiet protagonists within scenes that appear familiar, uncertain and dreamlike.

Rufus gained a First-Class BA in Fine Art from UCA, where he specialised in painting. Alongside his studio practice, he teaches art at an independent school, and his original paintings have sold internationally.
