About

Richard Pool

Contemporary Ceramicist | Decorative Wheel-Thrown Forms | Based in Kent

Richard Poole is a Kent-based ceramicist whose work blends rich surface textures with sculptural, wheel-thrown forms. Originally trained in software engineering, Richard’s journey into ceramics began in 2020 with a pottery day course—an experience that sparked a deep and lasting creative passion.

Inspired by his early life in Zimbabwe and the Seychelles, Richard’s ceramics emphasise form over function, often featuring a contrast of smooth glazes with raw, incised textures. His decorative vessels explore the tactile and visual balance between structure, surface, and material. Working from his home studio, as well as Aylesford Pottery and The Potters Studio in Flimwell, Richard continues to develop a distinctive body of work that celebrates craftsmanship, experimentation, and the quiet ritual of making.
